Best Gay Beaches in Provincetown

Herring Cove Beach is one of Provincetown’s most popular and accessible beaches. It is not officially a gay beach, but in Provincetown you can expect a very LGBTQ+ crowd, particularly in summer.

Set within the Cape Cod National Seashore, Herring Cove is known for its broad sandy shoreline, calm swimming conditions and spectacular sunsets. It is also a great spot for views across the water towards Provincetown and the surrounding coastline.

The seasonal Provincetown Shuttle runs directly to Herring Cove Beach from town, making it easy to visit without a car. Food facilities can vary by season, so it is worth checking what is open before you go.

Close to Herring Cove Beach you'll find Provincetown's gay nudist beach. It's sometimes known as Boy Beach - or just The Gay Beach. It's a fairly slim stretch of beach and you'll often find hot men in their speedos and playing music on portable speakers.

Reaching it is part of the experience. Most visitors approach from the Herring Cove/Province Lands side and walk across sandy and marshy terrain to reach the more secluded stretch of beach. Conditions can vary significantly with the tide, and Provincetown has a large tidal range, so it is worth checking tide times before setting out.

You'll need to walk through the flat marshes and sometimes you may even need to wade through waist-high water. When it's high tide you might need to hold your belongings over your head! The best gay area of the beach is immediately on your left as you arrive. The further left you go the more nude and isolated the crowd gets. 

A few warnings: You shouldn't swim alone at dawn or dusk or anywhere near seals. There are also Great White sharks in the area and you should watch out for the poison ivy in the dunes too.

Your magical gaydar should lead you to your destination. Bring water and supplies as there are no shops by the gay beach.
